![]() I never played many PS1 JRPGs so this might have something to do with that. My last JRPG I finished was DQV on the SNES, so the battle and story pacing was weird to get into at first, but after a few hours it was fine. Loving the game so far, really fulfilling that fun fantasy vibe, even with all the horrible things happening in the last few hours. I'm already about 17 hours into FFIX and I just met Eiko after the Scottish dwarf village. Tbh really depends on what remakes get announced and which game I hear music from.Ĥ6h 33m Played After many false starts with a FF game over the years I hope to finally beat my first FF game. Next Final Fantasy will probably be "Tactics Advanced". The ending really wrapped things up well. Overall, glad I continued playing after the hardlock. Card game wasn't that cancer, kinda wish it was more relevant. I could write more on the game, but hard to think of everything I experienced. ![]() Didn't use Amarant much, but his Flair abilities seemed cool. Quina big utility carry, but didn't use her much after Desert Palace. Freya felt lacking in battle purpose after some point. I abused the fuck outta their long animations with Auto-Regen in the final fights. Final fights from the Guardians onwards were basically using the same abilities for each character over and over again. Having access to all abilities once learned was nice. Barely activated and most characters' didn't do much. Gameplay: Trance system was completely fuckin irrelevant. I also enjoyed how the game made you use every character at some point, usually separating them into groups. The ATEs definitely made the characters feel more important and gave them more depth. Tantalus crew, Kuja & Garland and the Genomes, Black Mages, Cid and his wife. The secondary characters in this game were great though. Overall felt like this cast was more important to the story than 7, but didn't enjoy the characters as much. Freya cool design, wish Burmercia had more depth after Cleyra. Wish he would've lived to see Zidane returned, but fits his story. ![]() Cool to see it all come back to the beginning with the play in the end. Thought all the Brahne stuff was boring, but Kuja onwards was nice. Very intereting commentary on life and death and someone new to the concepts coming to terms with it. Story: The Black Mages and their village was the highlight. Didn't really care for much of them but Vivi until mid Disc 3 when the story started bringing things together. Overall, definitely felt like the game, its setting, characters, plot, etc. Final team for Memoria and final bosses was Zidane (Lv. Used "Max Money" very late to help with synthesizing end-game gear. Also used "9999 Damage" when fighting random encounters. Used "No Encounters" and 9x/12x speed throughout the game, but used the "Learn Abilities Automatically" cheat once I got back to Desert Palace to not have to grind. Starting using the Memoria cheats heavily around that time. Ended up reloading that save and completing the game, glad I did. ![]() Was pissed because my last save was 8 hours earlier and was feeling really impatient, didn't wanna finish. Got hardlocked at Desert Palace after Memoria saving as frog Cid. Went in blind, but followed Jegged guide mostly to avoid missables. 9/10.ģ8h 42m PlayedPlayed with Moguri Mod and Memoria. It's top 3 for my favourite Final Fantasy, and one of the best in the series. Gameplay is a nice return to the 4 person party, other than that it's just FF, nothing new. He is one of my more personal favourite villains in the series though, I love how unhinged he was. I'm also a sucker for villains and heroes that were "failures" and tossed away, so maybe I'm biased. Kuja is a great main antagonist - one of the best in the series, again. Steiner is arguably one of the best characters in the series, his growth from being narrow minded to accepting all was extremely satisfying. Garnet is an okay character though I do feel like we've seen a story like hers many times, and I think Yuna from FFX was a better version of her character archetype as a child of a pivotal/important person in the world. Vivi is a top tier character in the entire series who also questions his existence as a doll who gained sentience and had one of the saddest backstories I've ever seen, and Garnet and Steiner both got heavy focus too. "You are not alone" sequence was short, but the point was made clear that his team would never leave him behind. His arc was done very well, as he begins to question his humanity after he realizes he was born to be a weapon. Zidane was a fantastic MC, who was vibrant and sunny, nicely contrasting the previous three main protagonists, who were either cold, introverted, edgy, or some combination of the three. FF9 was a return to basic fantasy after the steampunk/dieselpunk/solarpunk of the previous games. ![]() One of my more personal favourite games in the series. ![]()
